Irish Farmers Journal is the main sponsor of The Traditional Irish Horse Breeding Society

The Traditional Irish Horse Breeding Society owes a huge debt of gratitude to the Irish Farmers Journal as they have very generously sponsored the Limerick Lady, Limerick Matron and Foal Championships in their entirety.

With their help we have organised 32 Qualifiers at Shows throughout Ireland with the intention of selecting suitable two year old fillies of traceable Irish breeding who when crossed to Approved Thoroughbred Stallions are likely to produce the much sought after Irish Sport Horse.

Once these fillies have been selected they are entitled to compete for the All Ireland Farmers Journal Limerick Lady Championship.

These so called Limerick Ladies are invited back each year thereafter as Limerick Matrons once they are in foal to or have been covered by an Approved Thoroughbred Stallion.  The Matrons are then entitled to compete for the All Ireland Farmers Journal Matron Championship.

The progeny of these Matrons may compete for the foal Championship at Limerick Show on 23rd August.

Essentially what we as a Society are endeavouring to do is to restore the herd of quality Irish half bred brood mares and to encourage their owners to cover them with a throughbred stallion.

Without the support of the Irish Farmers Journal our task would have been enormous.   We thank them not only for their financial support but also wish to acknowledge their very important help in promoting our breeding scheme.
